Construction Of A Sleep Number Bed

Sleep Number beds are known for their high-quality, innovative air beds. They feature Dual Adjustability, Responsive Air Technology®, and SleepIQ® Technology that allows you to track the quality of your sleep. Each Sleep Number bed allows you to adjust to your ideal firmness and comfort level with the Sleep Number remote or SleepIQ® mobile app.

While each Sleep Number Smart Bed has its own unique set of specs, the basics of all models are as follows:

  • Core Layer: At the heart of a Sleep Number Bed is the air chamber(s). Depending on the size, the bed comes with a single or dual-sided air chambers that contain more or less air depending on your controlled Sleep Number setting. This is what the Sleep Number Bed is famous for.
  • Comfort Layer: Atop the air chamber(s) is a comfort layer made up of either gel-infused polyfoam or a combination of polyfoam and memory foam. Thickness varies by model but range from 2" (c2 model) all the way to 7" (i10 model). How dense this layer is determines how firm or plush the bed feels.
  • Cover: All the models in the Classic and Performance Series have a cover made of up of a rayon and polypropylene blend, while the Innovation Series has a polyester and polypropylene blend.

Testimonials From Real Sleep Number Bed Owners

We've compiled reviews from real Sleep Number Bed owners ranging from 1 star to 5 stars, so you get an unbiased look at some of the positives and negatives customers have experienced.

  • 1/5 rating: "We thought this would be a great bed. It’s like sleeping on a very expensive air mattress!"
  • 2/5 rating: "We bought a Sleep Number bedding set. For the first couple of years, we thought it was the greatest bed on earth. But soon, it lost its "oomph." The bed wouldn't pump up or down and became very uncomfortable."
  • 3/5 rating: "Now I find out that the mattress is either too hard (with too much air in it), or it is rock hard when deflated because you are sleeping on the frame or box springs. There is no comfortable in-between because the mattress is too thin to allow a mid-point of inflation. It does have excellent motion isolation though."
  • 4/5 rating: "This bed is comfortable and adjustable for both of our needs. I had to call customer support about an issue and they fixed it right away. I recommend the use of this bed. The sales staff was also very knowledgeable."
  • 5/5 rating: "I have owned mine since 2012 and still love it. I can adjust the air if I want a more firm night of sleep. I won't go back to a regular mattress, ever!"

How To Choose The Right Mattress

First off, if your current mattress is 7-10 years old and you're experiencing more body aches and pains, it's time to buy a new mattress. Getting a good nights sleep is essential in maintaining a healthy body and mind. Choosing the right mattress doesn't have to be a hassle, follow these guidelines to find the right one for you!

  • Choose a mattress based on your individual needs. If you're looking for plushier support that adapts to your body's shape, a memory foam mattress is the best choice. If you want a more firm, traditional, feel an innerspring mattress is what you want. For the best of both worlds, get a hybrid mattress.
  • Get proper lumbar support. The majority of your body weight is positioned in what is called the "center third" of the mattress. Find a mattress that has excellent lumbar support as it prevents and alleviates pain in the back and hips. If you are looking for extra support, Saatva's unique lumbar zone technology might be a best fit.
  • Find a mattress with a long in-home trial. You want to be able to test your mattress over an extended period of time to really make sure this is the right one for you. Look for a company that offers a risk-free in-home sleep trial. IDLE Sleep offers a full 18-month trial (the longest in the industry).
